BIOSEV BIOENERGIA S.A. is committed to promoting environmental responsibility throughout its production process, aligning its activities, products, and services with the principles of sustainability. The company uses innovative technologies and industrial and agricultural initiatives that reduce environmental impact while optimizing operational efficiency.

Air
Annually, the emissions from our boilers are monitored to comply with current regulations and prevent air pollution. We have eliminated the burning of sugarcane straw by making 100% of our harvest mechanized. BIOSEV BIOENERGIA S.A is a signatory of the Agroenvironmental Protocol and receives the Etanol Verde (Green Ethanol) Certificate annually.
This certificate recognizes the company’s good practices regarding the need to organize agricultural and industrial activities in an environmentally sustainable way, minimizing environmental and societal impacts. We maintain an Internal Self-Inspection Program to ensure proper fleet maintenance and to control black smoke emissions.
Electric Energy
BIOSEV BIOENERGIA S.A. produces its own electricity from the burning of sugarcane bagasse in boilers (clean and renewable energy), enough to meet all its energy consumption needs.

Water
Water Usage and Reuse: The industrial process employs closed-loop water systems, where water is treated and recirculated, significantly reducing water usage per ton of sugarcane.
Forest Protection: All areas of forest vegetation, riparian zones, and springs are protected and conserved to maintain the quality of the water on the properties owned by BIOSEV BIOENERGIA S.A.
Waste Management
We conduct an integrated evaluation of all waste generation processes in the agricultural, industrial, and administrative areas. This evaluation aims to identify opportunities for waste reduction, cost savings, and minimizing environmental risks.
Agricultural Area: Sustainable practices are employed to reduce waste, such as the reuse of organic materials, encouragement of composting, and the use of agricultural techniques that minimize the generation of unwanted by-products.
Industrial Area: We optimize processes to reduce waste production, introduce cleaner and more efficient technologies, and implement recycling and reuse systems, all aligned with the principles of the circular economy.
Administrative Area: The focus is on conscious waste management in office environments, reducing paper, plastic, and disposable materials, while implementing awareness and training programs for employees.
Temporary storage of waste is carried out to prevent leaks, contamination, and other adverse impacts. Waste is disposed of according to environmental regulations, promoting recycling whenever possible and seeking sustainable solutions for final disposal. Class I and Class II waste are collected by a third-party company as needed, with no defined periodicity.

Industrial By-products
The vinasse, filter cake, wastewater from the process, and ash are by-products generated in the industrial process that are used for soil application in agriculture.
Vinasse: Rich in potassium, vinasse is applied through fertigation, approved by CETESB (Environmental Sanitation Technology Company). It follows technical guidelines for soil application, which are outlined in the PAV (Vinasse Application Plan) submitted annually before the start of the harvest. The application areas, rates, and soil chemical characterization are defined in this plan.
Filter Cake: Rich in phosphorus, filter cake is used in sugarcane plantations as a substitute or supplement for mineral fertilizers.
Reforestation
Permanent Protection Areas and Legal Reserves: This program aims to protect the vegetative cover of APPs (Permanent Preservation Areas) and Legal Reserves on BIOSEV BIOENERGIA S.A properties, promoting biodiversity and serving as ecological corridors. These areas help prevent erosion and sedimentation in watercourses.
Wildlife Management: With the elimination of sugarcane straw burning, which now reaches 100%, this practice has proven advantageous for wildlife preservation, as animals are no longer at risk of fire-related accidents. BIOSEV BIOENERGIA S.A has conducted a survey of fauna in the area surrounding the company, monitoring species such as mammals, birds, reptiles, and fish.

Soil Conservation
Soil protection is essential for securing the future, and BIOSEV BIOENERGIA S.A has developed a soil conservation strategy combining traditional techniques with modern technology. We use an advanced GNSS mapping system for land management and combine it with reduced tillage practices and crop rotation with other crops, such as soybeans, to protect and enhance the soil.
Biological Pest Control
Biological pest control is an effective method using living organisms to manage pest populations, reducing the need for chemical pesticides. This practice preserves the environment and biodiversity and reduces health risks associated with chemicals. BIOSEV BIOENERGIA S.A has a biofactory that breeds parasitoids (Cotesia flavipes) for controlling sugarcane borer and uses the entomopathogenic fungus (Metarhizium anisopliae) for controlling root-hopper pests in sugarcane.
